Case Study: Luxury Villa Entrance in Dubai — RC4 Security Meets Contemporary Design
Project Overview
Location: Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, UAE
Building type: Private luxury villa (7,500 sqft)
Client: Private developer
Specification requirement: RC4 security, triple glazing, smart home integration, custom RAL finish
The Design Challenge
The project architect required an entrance door that would serve as the primary architectural statement for a contemporary villa on Palm Jumeirah—one of the world’s most exclusive residential addresses. The brief demanded a floor-to-ceiling pivot door in excess of 3.2m height, finished in a custom deep bronze powder coat, with integrated sidelights and a transom panel to achieve a 4.5m-wide opening.
Security requirements were non-negotiable: the client demanded RC4 certification for the complete assembly, including glazing, which required specialized burglar-resistant laminated glass achieving P6B classification.
KINGSHIELD Solution
KINGSHIELD’s engineering team specified a bespoke pivot door system with the following key elements:
- Door leaf: 2mm cold-rolled steel skin with internal ribbing, 80mm total thickness
- Insulation: High-density polyurethane foam, Uw = 1.08 W/m²K
- Glazing: 44mm laminated security glass, P6B classification, heat-soaked
- Locking: 7-point multi-point lock with motorized operation and fingerprint/PIN/key override
- Finish: RAL 8019 brown powder coat (QUALICOAT Class 2, 80μm DFT)
- Hardware: Custom cast bronze pull handles, 1,200mm length
- Pivot: Floor-spring pivot rated to 450kg, adjustable hydraulic closing speed
Installation
The 380kg complete door assembly required pre-coordinated structural preparation by the main contractor, including reinforced concrete floor pockets for the floor pivot anchor and a custom steel lintel above the transom panel. KINGSHIELD’s installation team supervised site preparation and completed the installation over 3 days.
Client Outcome
The completed entrance exceeded the client’s expectations. The deep bronze finish aged beautifully in Dubai’s climate without any surface deterioration after 18 months, and the motorized multi-point locking system has been integrated seamlessly into the villa’s Crestron home automation system.
